Composite Timbers

Composite timber decking boards have made a big impact on the decking industry in recent years. They promise a number of advantages over natural timber decking including sustainability, use of recycled plastic waste, etc. The following manufacturers offer various composite boards, and while the specifications are quite similar from one manufacturer to the other, colour and size availability differs.

Some advantages of composite timber decking boards are:

  • Durability especially in pool or marine situations where salt is present
  • Termite resistant
  • Fire resistant
  • Easy installation
  • No splinters, cracks, warping, cupping or rot
  • Hidden fastener systems for most boards
  • Colour matched screws for most boards
  • Available in standard long 5.4m lengths
  • Low maintenance
  • Between 70% and 90% recycled materials (plastic milk containers)
  • Most come with warranty of 7-10 years

In some cases, decks will need to be designed with composite boards in mind.
